The alpaca provided both fleece for clothing and was a source of meat for thousands of years. A recent change in laws has granted the Alpaca a protected status making it illegal to trade in alpaca meat. Alpaca fleece is similar to sheep’s wool but lighter, silkier and warmer. It bears minimum lanolin which makes it nearly hypoallergenic.
