Black Tailed Prarie Dog

After a gestation period of 35 days. Birth is given to 1-2 babies called pups. The pups are born hairless & sightless. After 4-6 weeks they begin to investigate the world around them. These cute little guys actually have 22 sharp little teeth in that tiny mouth. In the wild they only have a life span of 1-2 years however there have been some live 5-6 years in captivity. They are a very social & affectionate animal.

The black tailed Prairie Dog is now extinct in Canada and is only found in the Rolling Plains of Montana & Texas. Black-tailed prairie dogs are currently found in less than 2% of the area they inhabited only a 50 years ago
