SAFARI CAMP

The kinkajou is more commonly known as the Honey Bear. They are native to Central & South America. Often mistaken as members of the ferret of monkey family when in fact they are related to the lesser Panda Bear.

The kinkajou has a life span of 20 to 25 yrs. Gestation is 112 to 118 days. The female usually gives birth to one baby although twins have been seen on rare occasion. They have a fully prehensile tail which is used as a 5th hand for climbing. They have remarkable manipulatory abilities rivaling primates.

The kinkajou has a very long 5 to 6 inch tongue. Their saliva contains a particularly tenacious species specific bacterium. If a bite is not treated quickly and with the proper antibiotics, the infection may become severe enough to cause human death.
