A true Miniature Sicilian Donkey always stands under 36" some as tiny as 28” They have an average lifespan of 20 years in captivity. They are a very social animal and must have the companionship of other animals at all times. Gestation is 372 days. The baby called a foal is able to stand, nurse & walk within minutes of being born.

The miniature Sicilian Donkey is native to the Mediterranean Islands of Sicily & Sardinia. Unfortunately they are almost extinct in the land of their origin. However there popularity as guard animals and pets has insured that there are a good number of them in captivity.

The miniature donkey is by nature one of the friendliest and most affectionate animals of the equine type. They love their owners and seek attention much like a dog. They are extremely intelligent & docile. This intelligence makes training exceptionally easy provided they understand what you want them to do.
