
Gestation for the Muntjac deer
is 210 days at which time birth
is given to a single baby called aA fawn. The fawn will stay with
it’s mother for 7-9 months before
It will venture out on it’s own.
Muntjac’s do not have a rut season and breed at all times of the year. Average lifespan in captivity
is 12-14 years.

Muntjac Deer are are native to South Asia and can be found from Sri Lanka to southern China, Taiwan, Japan , India and the Indonesian islands. They are also found in the eastern Himalayas and in Burma. Muntjac were introduced to England , with wild deer originating from escapes of Woburn Park around 1925. They have expanded very rapidly, and are now present in most English counties, they have also expanded there range into Wales.

The common name for the Muntjac deer is “barking deer” resulting from the repeated loud bark given under a number of circumstances. An alarmed Muntjac will scream whereas maternal does & fawns squeak. |
