The pearl fox is really a mutation of the Red Fox. A Pearl female bred to a pearl male certainly increases the chances of Pearl kits but it is also just as likely that the entire litter will be red foxes. For reasons unknown the peal fox tends to be 15-20 % smaller then it’s parent the red fox.

In the wild, foxes can live for up to 10 years, but most foxes only live for 2 to 3 years due to hunting, road accidents and diseases. Foxes are generally smaller than other members of their family Canidae such as wolves, jackals, and domestic dogs.

Foxes have binocular vision but their sight reacts mainly to movement. Their auditory perception is acute, being able to hear blackcocks changing roosts at 600 paces, the flight of crows at 1/4-1/2 km and the squeaking of mice at about 100 meters They are capable of locating sounds to within one degree at 700-3,000 Hz, though less accurately at higher frequencies. Their sense of smell is good, but weaker than that of specialized dogs
