SAFARI CAMP

The pygmy goat has an average life span of 12 years. Gestation is approximately 152 days. The female gives birth to one, two and sometimes up to four kids. Newborn kids will nurse immediately, begin eating grain and roughage within a week and are weaned by three months of age.

Pygmy goats originate from the Cameroon Valley of Western African and are also known as a Cameroon Dwarf Goat. Imported to North America from Europe in the 1950s, they have become very popular as pets and exhibition animals due to their good nature, obedience and friendliness.

They are a very hardy and healthy breed of goat. They produce a large quantity of milk in comparison to their size. They are also quick to gain weight. No one seems to know why some will have a wattle (two tassels under the chin) and some don’t.
