The Ring-tailed Lemur is a diurnal prosimian native to Madagascar, an island off of Southeast Africa. They are considered threatened due to loss of habitat by humans. They inhabit both the ground and the trees. While primarily eating fruit, the ring-tailed lemur will also eat leaves.

Females socially dominate males in all circumstances including feeding priority. They form troops of up to 25 individuals with females remaining and males alternating between troops every few years. Both vocal and scent signals are very important in ring-tailed lemur communications.
