Spanish Cashmere Goat

Cashmere goats have been bred in Central Europe for hundreds of years.
Europeans “discovered” the fiber, notably in the so called Ring Shawl. These soft, warm shawls we so fine they could be pulled through a wedding ring, hence the name. The western worlds demand for the fiber began when Napoleon brought back a ring shawl for his wife, Josephine. To this day cashmere remains the ultimate in luxury fiber.

Spanish Cashmere Goat

Cashmere comes from a Goat? Time & time again breeders have heard this statement expressing surprise. Yes the exalted luxury fiber classed as cashmere
Comes from the modest, unassuming little goat. The fiber is so extraordinary & expensive one assumes that it should come from some wild exotic creature. Cashmere is very fine in texture yet it is strong, light and warm. Unlike other wools or fibers the cashmere goat does not have to be sheared, the cashmere is plucked or brushed as it begins to shed in early to mid May. The fact that each goat only produces 3-4 ounces of fiber a year continues to make Cashmere very expensive.
