SAFARI CAMP

The sugar glider is a nocturnal, tree dwelling creature, living in nests formed in tree hollows. It’s diet consists of insects, small vertebrates and feeds on sweet sap of eucalyptus, acacia and gum trees. Adult males mark the territory and group members with saliva and scent produced from glands on their forehead and chest.

The Sugar Glider is a small possum native to Australia, New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago. The most distinctive features of it’s anatomy are patagia which are flaps of skin that are obvious when it takes flight. When fully extended they form an aerodynamic surface the size of a large handkerchief allowing them to fly up to 50 meters (55 yards)

The female usually give birth to twins which remain in the pouch for 70 days, stay inside the nest for another 40 or 50 days and then begin to forage outside under supervision. In captivity, they may live up to 15 years.
