SAFARI CAMP

Their tail is their balance, their rudder and their 5th leg. They will thump their tails to warn others in the mob of danger. They are one of the few animals that have no particular leader when in a mob.

Bennett’s Red Necked Wallaby is native to the Eastern Coast of Australia as well as Tasmania. In the wild they are solitary animals only coming together for grazing and breeding. A group of wallabies is called a mob. They are a protected species.

Like all marsupials, the wallaby has a rather unusual pregnancy. They have a gestation of 30 days then they live in the pouch for approximately 280 days. The babies are called joeys and gain 2000 times their birth weight in the first 6 months of life.
